Thank you, Jacqueline Druga, for taking time out of your busy schedule to sit down for an interview.

Thank you for having me.

TIMOTHY W. LONG What have you contributed to the apocalyptic horror genre and what are you best known for?Can you tell us about it?

Jackie - MugshotJACQUELINE DRUGA I believe I contribute a family oriented, human side of the apocalypse through my writing. I am often criticized for not having the ‘action’ but that’s not what my stories are like. It’s sort of like if most PA books are the move The Day After, I am the movie equivalent Testament.  Most people know me for my book, Sleepers, which is a variation of Zombies. My ‘striken’ are not dead, they are violent from a virus that had previously rendered them into a state of sleep. They are like they violent Sleepwalkers. Zombieland Pilot Review

zombieland-logo-630x472

Because I’ve written a few zombie books (okay four or five) people think I’m some kind of zombie expert. Hah! Jokes on them, zombies aren’t real – unless you count mall shoppers and early morning commuters.

So Amazon Studios is trying something different. They shoot pilots, release them into the wild, and then gauge audience reaction. There are a number of new shows but the one I was most interested in was Zombieland.  Here’s my quick review based on the pilot which you can watch right here: Zombieland Pilot.

The short version: Go watch this now! It’s worth your 30 minutes. Continue reading “Zombieland Pilot Review” »

Super MegaPocalyptic Author Interview With David Moody

I’m thrilled to be joined by one of the founding fathers of the undead genre. David Moody has been writing about the things that lurch around in my nightmares since 2000. If you have not read his book, Hater, I highly reccomend it. While it’s not a zombie book, it’s an amazing post apocalyptic series.

Thank you, David Moody, for taking time out of your busy schedule to sit down for an interview. Can you provide a brief bio for readers who may not be familiar with your work?

David MoodyThanks for having me here! Can I be really lazy and copy and paste my bio? David Moody grew up on a diet of trashy horror and pulp science fiction. He worked as a bank manager before giving up the day job to write about the end of the world for a living. He has written a number of horror novels, including AUTUMN, which has been downloaded more than half a million times since publication in 2001 and spawned a series of sequels and a movie starring Dexter Fletcher and David Carradine. Film rights to HATER were snapped up by Guillermo del Toro (Hellboy, Pan’s Labyrinth) and Mark Johnson (producer of the Chronicles of Narnia films). Moody lives with his wife and a houseful of daughters and stepdaughters, which may explain his pre-occupation with Armageddon. His latest novel, TRUST, is currently available free online at www.trustdavidmoody.com. Visit Moody at www.davidmoody.net. Continue reading “Super MegaPocalyptic Author Interview With David Moody” »

Super MegaPocalyptic Author Interview With Peter Clines

This week is off to a bang with a new interview in my ongoing Super MegaPocalyptic author interview series. Today I’m joined by Peter Clines who should be no stranger to genre fans.

Thank you, Peter Clines, for taking time out of your busy schedule to sit down for an interview.

PETER CLINES: Thanks for thinking I’d be somewhat interesting.  If you don’t mind, though, I’m going to stand.  Is that going to be weird?

Can you tell me about your work and what you bring to the genre?

PClinesPETER CLINES: What do I bring to the genre?  Jeeeeshh… I don’t know.  Fun?

Actually, that’s probably not a bad answer.  I like to think I just bring an entertaining read.  I know a lot of people dive into their novel and are looking for “a bold new take” or “a clever re-imagining” or “a wholly original idea.”  I’ll be completely honest and say none of my ideas are that new or original.  I’m just taking classic ideas and tropes and trying to tell the most entertaining story I can with them.  None of my books are going to change anyone’s life, but I hope they’ll give a few hours of complete, exciting escapism that ends on a more-or-less uplifting note.

(Yes, it’s entirely possible to have uplifting notes in a post apocalyptic world.  It just takes a little effort.) Continue reading “Super MegaPocalyptic Author Interview With Peter Clines” »
